SV Real Reinickendorf v Rovers 3-3 (1-0)
Rovers: David G, James W, Karim, Rafa – Alberto, Calvin, David G, Denis, Federico (c), James W, Jules, Karim, Rafa, Rick, Robert, Victor
Goals: Alberto, David, Calvin
Miscellaneous: Victor and Robert reffed the second half
Supporters:All the way from Brighton England…the lucky winner of the Rovers prize draw and a weekend of hospitality with Rovers Superstar striker Alberto and complimentary ticket to the big match….well done Ilir – The Rovers Salute you.
Match report: There Ain’t Snow Stopping Us Now
The Rovers are nothing if not versatile. You can stick a Rover in any position (now now everybody keep calm…not in a filthy way)..on any surface..in any weather conditions.. and the lads will cope. That being said what the feck was last night all about??? With the Arctic Spring taking over the city, 12 inches of snow on the unidentifiable football field and danger signs flashing in the tiny little Rovers minds, Logic suggested this wasn’t gonna happen. Thankfully the Rovers laugh in the face of Logic. If the Real Reinickendorf (The Rovers don’t play fakes) were prepared to throw down, our band of intrepid explorers weren’t about to back down.
Cue 90 minutes of comedy something loosely resembling football…
Drastic Conditions called for drastic measures…and Thomas pulled no punches ripping up the Rovers Tika-Taka magnet board and introducing Route One Football straight out of the Jack Charlton 1990 tactic book – If you’re asking who? Or what the fuck? – watch this and I defy it not to bring an inspired tear to your eye http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5PT65I2ny8
Suitably inspired the Rovers battled the obstacles..with no goalie..no ref..no footing and no feeling in fingers or toes. At least the Real Reinickers didn’t fluke 3 wonder goal lobs from the clouds against us! No sorry wait – they did! Ah well…what doesn’t freeze you slowly and miserably to death only makes you stronger – so well done all for the fighting spirit. David pirouetted and pucked in a goal. Alberto snowploughed in another….before Karim and Rafa slalomed through the Real defence to slide in Calvin to smash in a wonderful winning goal. No less than his fantastic hard running (sliding) performance deserved. So 3-3 it ended and a terrific victory for the defiant Rovers Ice-men.
Special thanks to everyone (you know who you are) …especially to Rafa for a comedy turn as goalie wearing every stitch of clothing he could rustle up..…Cheers also to Official Rovers Orange Man Jules for the continuing and never-ending provision of somewhat sliced oranges. Joint man of the match award to you both…somewhat surprisingly not for the comedy capers but for excellent and dominant football performances on the snowfield of play. Bottles of bubby are in the post.
Now for the bad news. Hold the hype. The cup isn’t as brave as the Rovers and won’t go ahead in the snow. Booooooo……but don’t don’t be too upset – there is good news …it’s paddys day on sunday. Free pass to the whole world to go out and get absolutely mullered!! Happy days. The new Rovers Synth Irish Folk group, led by born again Footballer Jamsie may or may not make an appearance.
Just 6 days to go. Fortune and Glory kids. Fortune and glory.

Rovers: Krzysztof – Alberto, Alonso, Arthur, Dani, David, Denis, Federico (c), Jules, Rafa, Rick, Robert, Rune, Tommaso
Goals: Alberto 3, Federico
Booked: Federico and 1 opponent
Supporters: Just poor old Thomas on his todd!
Match report: Super Al Smashes the Spandau
I don’t report on friendlies…but then again the Rovers don’t do friendlies…so I’ll throw a few words at it.
Occurrences (and reoccurrences) of note: The Return of the wandering Rick from international duty in Barcelona. The Return of Alonso from a far and distant planet – Bienvenido de nuevo caballo loco! The return of Román legend Tommaso from being frozen out in Siberia. Hang tough amico! The return of the mullet….not sure this will catch on… but big RespeKt to Arthurfucksake for giving it a lash. A fine debut and a goal assist almost distracted attention from the barnet. The return of Rune to bossing the midfield. The rock and roll train, plane, automobile return of The lightning conductor Jules to tearing up the left wing. The return of David’s personal chauffeur…one need never be late again! The return of the magic Rafa dragback…quickly followed by the rerun of the magic dragback…it never gets old
The return of Robert the striker…hope you had fun dude…we’ll need you in goal tonight ha ha! The return of the Goalscoring heroics of Cup King Alberto…warming up nicely for a big Thursday cup winning performance with a Spandau-cup winning Hat-trick. 2 excellent one on one finishes followed by a bullet header. The return of Dani’s eye-of-the-needle slide-rule passing. The return of the hole in the Rovers defensive Wall (two soft goals from free-kicks leaked) – some rebuilding required for Thursday! The return of Krzysztof to his Polish legacy….Spandau is in Poland right? There can be no other explanation why it takes 2 fecking hours to get there!……and…..and..… wait it for it ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………………………………………………….after a full 1 game absence – the return of the Rovers 35yard Rocket. Stand up and take a bow Federico for a wonderfully violent strike. Smashing a 35yard rocket (from fully 40 yards) into the top corner to put the game to bed at 4-2.
So the Rovers returned from Poland as champions of Spandau. Well done all.
Now for the return of the hype!!!…just 4 days..and 3 sleeps to go

Match report
> Rovers go down in style in Paris <
The first Rovers tour abroad will be fondly remembered by the 12 brave mercenaries who took their green shirts to Paris on a busy Valentine's Day week-end. One man was unfortunately left in the caring hands of nurses and away from the battlefield: poor Eric was hit by a nasty cold that forced him to watch ten episodes of the Simpsons on Saturday.
The other 11 met at Porte de Versailles on a grey but dry winter afternoon. The night before had seen some Brazilian celebrations in Montmartre and as a result Rover spirits were running high, even if focus was a little blurred at first. Luckily, everyone had been informed of their position and duties on a tablecloth the previous evening.
As the team entered the impressive 1970s sports facilities of Paris' XVth district, they naturally evoked the spirit of the saint patron of hungover footballers: it would be none other than Belfast maverick Georgie Best who would guide us through the mists and perils of detoxification. From 1 to 11 as the song goes (http://youtu.be/H3pwFgr8mPI).
The opponents, l'Evolution Sportive et Culturelle du XVème, were in their own state of recovery: they had been hammered in a cup tie the evening before. Instant revenge and the restoration of pride were on their mind. In the end, their deserved victory would be delayed for more than an hour by some strong resistance and two goals from the touring Rovers.
After a double team photo to commemorate what may become a historical step in European integration, the first half was a tense and surprisingly scoreless affair. Rovers were patiently waiting for the younger opponents to commit forward and expose themselves at the back (Krzysztof perhaps more than anyone), and nearly got what they wanted with a few decent opportunities from distance.
But the best chance came for ESC XV, who saw a looping shot hit both posts before being collected by the blond Dudek. It was a lucky escape for the Rovers, but at least it kept touring coach Tobi Jogi (the injured talisman) awake on the side-line.
His half-time talk consisted of calling for renewed effort and patience, particularly from the twin towers of Alvaro and Federico in midfield. More presence was required of the Catalan in particular, as both Tobi Jogi and Viki Klinsi identified his potential key contribution after the break. And very present he became, playing an instrumental role in keeping the Rovers afloat for another 30 minutes, before two late goals sealed a Parisian win.
A total of six goals were scored in an entertaining second half, the first one courtesy of Toki the fox who beat the Rovers backline from a tight angle. But the Rovers had belief and they quickly equalised through a beauty of a corner delivered by Portuguese ringer-meister Nuno. The ball was flicked at the first post by Ian’s “Skippy the Bush Kangaroo” impersonation for Alvaro to finish decidedly from close range. It was not long however until the skilful Parisian midfielders returned to sniff around the Rovers box for blood and space. They regained the advantage through a xaviesque pass and messiesque finish from Niccolo and Octave. But once again, the Rovers did honour to their shirt and pulled themselves back level. This time some decent work by the humble author of these lines set up Alvaro to unleash a spectacular thunderbolt from 25 yards, which caught the (otherwise impressive) French keeper off his guard.
2-2, 15 minutes to go. Tobi Jogi was smiling. Not for long unfortunately, as the Rovers started to run out of fuel after what had turned out to be a gruelling hour of midfield combat. George Best would probably have asked for more liquor to finish the game in full swing. Or he might simply have asked to be taken off to give another player a chance and himself a pint of Guiness.
But this time it was the French offense who obtained their deserved and hard-fought win. Their fourth goal was the last kick of the game, included hand contacts – the Rovers central defenders had indeed paid tribute to another legend of the game, El Pibe de Oro, by proceeding to hide a couple of controversial touches from the eyes of the invisible referee.
The relief was shared by all at the final whistle: both teams had given a good account of their available capacities and team spirit. George Best was once again invoked, as the victorious hosts offered beers to their guests in the changing rooms. The favour was returned with wine and food later in the evening. The rest of the tour can be summarised as a tale of roasted ham, elegant dresses, pink ties and sunny strolls.
